Seasonal vs. Permanent Christmas Lights: Which Is Right for Your Home?

Quick answer: Seasonal lighting is a full-service display we install each fall, maintain through the holidays, then take down and store. Permanent lighting is mounted on your home year-round and runs from an app, so you can use it for every holiday and for everyday warm-white light. Many Central Valley homeowners choose based on whether they want lights only at Christmas or all year.
We install both. That puts us in a good position to explain the difference honestly, because the right choice depends on your home and how you want to use it, not on which service we would rather sell.
How Seasonal Christmas Lighting Works
Seasonal Christmas lighting is a decorating program. We design the display, supply the commercial-grade LED lights and decor, install it, and repair any section that fails during the season.
After the holidays we take everything down and store it at our facility. You never buy, store or reinstall anything, and you can change the design next year.
Seasonal displays can include much more than the roofline: wrapped trees, garland and wreaths, columns, railings, walkways and ground displays.
How Permanent Lighting Works
Permanent lighting is installed once and stays on the house all year. We install two residential systems:
OMNI RGB sits under the eave in color-matched, powder-coated aluminum track, so the hardware nearly disappears during the day. A dedicated warm-white diode handles everyday architectural light, and the OMNI RGB app runs color scenes and schedules.
PermaLites 365 mounts along the roofline and faces outward, so the lights are part of the look. It is the most visible option when you want a defined holiday outline that stays up all year.
For businesses, venues and public spaces, we also design mapped displays with Twinkly Pro, where every LED is individually programmed.

Which One Fits You?
Seasonal is usually the better fit if you:
Want trees, greenery and yard decor, not just the roofline
Like a classic Christmas look that changes from year to year
Only want lights during the holiday season
Permanent is usually the better fit if you:
Want lights for more holidays than Christmas
Like the idea of warm-white accent light every evening
Prefer hardware that is hard to spot during the day
Want to change colors from your phone instead of waiting for a crew

Built for Central Valley Conditions
Long stretches of triple-digit heat and strong sun are hard on exposed wire and stick-on mounts. Fog and seasonal rain bring moisture to every exposed connection.
Seasonal displays are planned for winter rain, wind and Tule fog, and our in-season repair visits cover anything the weather affects. Permanent systems keep the wiring protected in track and out of direct sun, with connection and controller placement planned into every design.
What About DIY Permanent Kits?
Retail permanent light kits can work for some do-it-yourselfers. We have also been called to homes where a kit failed after a few months on the roof. Read the real cost of a DIY permanent lighting system for one homeowner's story.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can permanent lights be used for Christmas?
Yes. Permanent systems run Christmas scenes in the holiday season and other colors the rest of the year.
Can I control permanent lights from my phone?
Yes. OMNI runs on the OMNI RGB app for colors, scenes and schedules.
What does a permanent system look like during the day?
OMNI track is color-matched to your trim and sits under the eave, so it is hard to spot. PermaLites 365 faces outward, so the fixtures are part of the roofline.
Do I have to buy seasonal lights?
No. With seasonal service we supply the products, maintain them through the season, then take them down and store them.
