What's Included in a Bistro Light Installation?
Site evaluation and layout
We measure each span, mark anchor points on walls, eaves, trees or posts, and find the nearest outlet before drawing the layout. You see where every line runs before anything is hung.
Commercial-grade LED bulbs and stringers
Outdoor-rated stringers with LED bulbs built for repeated seasons, not light-duty store sets. LEDs draw far less power than incandescent bulbs, so longer runs fit on fewer outlets.
Aircraft-cable support
On longer spans a tensioned steel cable carries the weight and the string clips to it. That keeps lines straight, limits sag and keeps wind from pulling at the sockets.
Posts, poles and anchor hardware
Where a lawn, pool deck or courtyard has nothing to attach to, posts or poles are set for the job. Eye bolts and brackets go into solid framing wherever the structure allows.
Ladders, lifts and tidy cord runs
Crews bring the ladders and lifts needed for high patio covers, two-story courtyards and open-air spans, and route cords along structure instead of across walkways.
Timers, switches and takedown
Timers, switches or other controls are added on request. For temporary event systems, takedown is included when the proposal calls for it.
Which Bistro Light Layout Fits Your Patio?
The layout matters more than the bulb. A canopy or grid pattern spreads even light over a dining area or outdoor bar, which suits restaurant patios where every table needs enough light to read a menu. A zigzag run crosses a narrow side yard or courtyard with only a few anchor points per side, so it works well in the long, thin spaces between a house and a block wall that are common on Valley lots.
Perimeter lighting follows the edge of a patio cover, fence or pergola and leaves the center open to the sky, which keeps a pool deck from feeling closed in. Focal-point layouts run outward from one tall pole, tree or feature like spokes, pulling the eye to a fire pit, a dance floor or a head table. Many properties combine two layouts, such as a perimeter run with a canopy over the dining table.

A permanent bistro system is built to stay up year-round over a backyard, restaurant patio or winery terrace. That means cable support, set posts and hardware chosen for years of Valley sun and wind rather than one weekend. Restaurants and breweries often light outdoor dining this way so the patio stays usable after dark from spring through fall, when warm evenings keep people outside long after sunset.
A temporary system is hung for a wedding, party or community event and taken down afterward. If you like how the event lighting looks, it can stay, and we can plan the install so it converts to a permanent fixture without starting over. New circuits and hardwired electrical work are not part of our scope, so when a space needs more power we coordinate with a qualified electrician.

Valley wind and winter rain put real load on long spans. Tensioned aircraft cable and solid anchor points keep lines from whipping, sagging or pulling loose between seasons.
Oaks, olives and palms as anchors
Mature trees make good anchor points, but a limb that moves in the wind needs slack built in and a strap that won't cut into the bark. Tree anchors are planned around the tree's size and movement.

Total run length
More linear feet of lights and cable means more material and more time on site.
Span distance
A long open span needs tensioned cable and stronger anchors than a short run between two walls.
Posts and poles
Lawns and pool decks with nothing to attach to need posts set for the job, which adds material and labor.
Height and access
Two-story attachment points, slopes and tight courtyards may require a lift.
Power and controls

Bistro lighting is custom-priced after a site evaluation. The price depends on total run length, span distances, whether posts or poles are needed, attachment height and power. A short run between two walls costs far less than a canopy across an open lawn, so we measure the space before we price it.
Can string lights span a yard with nothing to attach to?
Yes. Long or open spans are carried on tensioned aircraft cable, and posts or poles are set where there is no wall, eave or tree to anchor to. The string clips to the cable, so the cable does the structural work and the lights hang straight instead of sagging between supports.
Do you handle the electrical work for patio string lights?
We connect to existing outdoor outlets and add timers or switches on request. Additional circuits and hardwired electrical work are not included. When a space needs more power, we coordinate with a qualified electrician so the lighting layout and the new circuit are planned together.
Will bistro lights hold up to Valley wind and winter rain?
A properly supported system is built to. We use outdoor-rated stringers and commercial-grade LED bulbs, carry long spans on tensioned cable and anchor into solid structure.
